Dress Rehearsal Practice Tests

Dress Rehearsal Practice Tests provide our students with the opportunity to take full-length tests under simulated conditions.   We use only real SAT and ACT exams that have been released by the College Board and ACT, respectively.   Please remember to bring your calculator.

Location:  Bryn Mawr College Thomas Hall 102 (Downstairs).

It’s true we’re proud of our Dress Rehearsal Practice Tests.   Lots of companies hold practice tests, but we feel that ours is one the best.  Here’s why:

f

We use only pre-administered SAT and ACT exams.
The eight SAT tests in the big blue College Board book are like the real thing—That’s why we insist our students use them for practice tests they do at home and sections they work on with their tutors—but they are not.

The blue book contains reformatted pre-March 12, 2005 SAT I and SAT II Writing exams.  (Kaplan and Princeton Review materials are knock-offs: those companies hire people to write questions like those on the SAT and ACT.)  The practice tests we use for the SAT DRPT are real SATs we get through the SAT Question-and-Answer Service.  The tests we use for the ACT DRPT are real ACT tests we order from the ACT.

Our DRPTs are the closest simulation of the SAT and ACT that we know about.

Rise and shine; it’s test time.
You’re going to have to get up early and be ready to think when you take the real test so you need to practice that as well. That’s why we start at 9:15 on Sunday mornings.

Our tests are full-length tests.
That means that our SAT DRPT has 10 sections.  Since most other companies use tests from Kaplan, Princeton Review, or the College Board big blue book, they only have 9 sections.  The real SAT has an experimental section that doesn’t count towards the score, but the student doesn’t know which section that is.  Therefore, our SAT DRPT has 10 sections too.  We want our students to be prepared for test day.  That means they need to experience exactly how long the test is: three hours and 45 minutes for the SAT and three hours and 25 minutes for the ACT.

We do the scoring for you.
Some tutoring companies make you correct your own test and type up your essay so that you can submit it to a scorer online.  We correct your test for you and while were doing so, we look for patterns that may indicate a bubbling error.  We also look at your eraser marks to see if you initially had the right answer, but changed it because you were second guessing yourself.

Our essay specialist knows essays.
Our essay reader has more than five years’ experience tutoring the SAT essay.  She was one of the only tutors on the Main Line who tutored the SAT II Writing test before it became incorporated into the SAT in March 2005.  Moreover, she was a SAT essay reader the first year the essay was part of the SAT.  She has worked with hundreds of students and has scored thousands of essays.

We do our best to accommodate your accommodations.
If the College Board or ACT has granted you an accommodation, such as extended time, we’ll try our best to give you the same accommodation.  Please make sure, however, to give us plenty of advanced notice so we can make the necessary arrangements.
